Share the amazing accomplishments of FACS Founder Ellen Swallow Richards through this new DVD. Written and produced by AAFCS member Joyce Miles, CFCS, The Life and Legacy of Ellen Swallow Richards tells the story of this remarkable woman. Ms. Richards was the first woman to enter MIT as a student where she eventually joined the staff as a professor. Through historic photos, interviews with historians, and a captivating narrative, viewers will develop an appreciation for Ms. Richards’ tireless efforts to improve our quality of life. She was a world-renowned expert in water quality testing and provided much of the early 20th century writing in nutrition. Richards was instrumental in helping the home economics profession become standardized, systematized, and upgraded. She founded the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS), where she served as the first president.
