Crayon Cupcakes

This fun and easy cupcake activity is perfect for students in a child care or child development course. Crayon Cupcakes are both a craft project and an exercise in recycling since they can be made from broken crayons. These rainbow colored crayons will surprise and delight the children who use them and they are easier for small fingers to manage than the original skinny crayons.

Crayon Cupcakes are simple and quick to make following these basic instructions.

1. Preheat oven to 250° F.

2. Line regular or mini-muffin pans with paper baking cups.

3. Remove the paper wrappers from the crayons.

4. If necessary, break crayons into pieces that will fit into muffin cups.

5. Place an assortment of different color crayons into each muffin cup. You may choose to combine colors representative of specific holidays, such as orange, black, green and yellow for Halloween or red and green for Christmas.

6. Place the muffin tins in the oven and allow crayons to melt. In mini-muffin tins crayons will melt in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Crayons in regular muffin pans will require approximately 20 to 25 minutes to melt. Watch Cupcake Crayons carefully because melting time will vary.

7. Allow Cupcake Crayons to cool completely.

8. Remove the cupcake paper and use to create artistic masterpieces.
