Green Warm-Up Activities for the FACS Classroom

Get Off to a Green Start- Start each class period of the entire school year with a reminder to students of the important of living green.  Each warm-up activity included in this useful resource fits one of the following categories:  Green Speak , Green Wisdom, Green Action or Green Ingenuity.  Students journal their responses as they reflect on and apply the principles of living an eco-friendly lifestyle.  5 Minute FACS, Get Off to a Green Start is an efficient and fun way to incorporate this timely topic into your curriculum.

The activities in this resource have been divided into four categories, each requiring students to apply varying thought processes and degrees of creativity.

Green Speak
Activities in this category introduce students to terms related to sustainable living, ecology, the environment or other aspects of green living.  

Green Action
Activities in this category are based on some of the shocking statistics related to the environment and the troubling waste of our natural resources.

Green Wisdom
Over the decades, men and women of great intellect, compassion and insight have reflected on the wonders of our planet and often grieved our abuse of its bounty.  The activities in this section of 5 Minute FACS, Get Off to a Green Start, will introduce students to words of wisdom regarding green living.

Green Ingenuity
This category is likely to be a favorite with students because it will allow them to "think outside the box" to develop new uses for discarded items.  Students will be challenged to brainstorm a new use for everyday items that would normally be thrown away.
