Focus on FACS
Bellwork Activities for the Family and Consumer Science Classroom
Author: Ramona L. Hatch
This very practical resource provides journal-style activities to help start FACS classes on a productive note each school day. Each daily activity is based on a concept or term related to one of the FACS content areas. A complete explanation of each term is provided to save teachers precious planning time. A concise student activity follows the mini-lesson. Students should be able to complete the activity in no more than five minutes time. The activities require no textbook or other resources for successful completion.
Focus on FACS provides bellwork activities sufficient for 42 school weeks. The concepts presented follow a calendar year and often relate to holidays or other calendar events. Eight objective quizzes with answers are also included so that you can efficiently evaluate the level of your students’ comprehension of the terms introduced.
A Directory of FACS Related Special Events provides creative inspiration for creating your own FACS bellwork activities. Daily, weekly and monthly designations such as National Potato Chip Day (March 14), National Family Week (1st week of May), and National Sewing Month (September) can stimulate interesting and fun class discussion and activities.
If following the resource from beginning to end does not fit you course content, A Focus Concepts Index makes it easy to select specific terms and quickly and easily locate them within the text.
Focus on FACS can help make your classroom instruction more efficient and effective while freeing your planning time for lesson preparation.
