FACS Literacy
Every educator, regardless of their content area, is charged with the task of building students’ proficiency in the fundamental skills of reading and writing. The resources on this page were developed to equip Family and Consumer Science teachers to seamlessly integrate reading and writing components into their existing curriculum. Blending reading into the FACS curriculum is easy when you encourage students to read books they enjoy and link the content of those books to hands-on activities. The new edition of Novel Approach is based on fourteen novels written for teen and young readers. The novels new to the 2011 version are:

The new 2011 edition of A Novel Approach to FACS is a complete guide to using fiction as a teaching tool in the FACS classroom. The new resource now includes over 200 pages of information and activities at the same affordable price.
The activities in this resource are appropriate for individual instruction or an entire class. Activities build FACS vocabulary, apply FACS skills, stimulate discussion and encourage creativity.
A complete curriculum to emphasizing literacy by
incorporating the culinary mystery Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder into the
FACS classroom. Includes 15 classroom-ready individual and group acitivies,
references, recipes, evaluation rubrics and answer keys. Recipe for Reading
includes activities for all FACS content areas. New for 2009: Bonus 5 new

A compilation of writing exercises designed to enable
teachers to effortlessly incorporate writing into the FACS curriculum. Each of
the 25 activities in the manual include step-by-step project instructions, a
vocabulary bank related to the project topic, additional support materials, and
an evaluation rubric. Projects include writing a child observation report, foods
lab report, a letter of introduction, restaurant review, fashion catalog,

The charming images on this set of 12 cards (2 each of six different designs) will add a touch of warmth to all of your correspondence. Appropriate for anyone, these cards were specifically created for FACS teachers. Measuring 5 x 7 inches, cards are blank on the inside providing ample space for your personal message.
