Ego Pillow
This is your chance to "show your stuff" while creating a neat accent pillow to use in your room or to give as a gift. The center of the design for your pillow will be YOU! And you will have the chance to surround yourself with all of the things and people that you love! Follow the steps below to get started.
Objective: To provide a means for students to creatively introduce themselves to other members of class.
Materials: 1 sheet heat transfer paper
½ yard white or off-white cotton fabric (pre-washed)
White or off-white thread
Pattern for pillow shape (16-inch square, round or heart-shaped)
Instructions for designing pillow cover:
1. Begin with a photographic image of yourself, either scanned from an existing photo or taken with a digital camera.
2. You will import the image into the graphics design program of your choice. (Ex. Print Shop©, Print Master Gold©, PhotoSho© etc.)
3. Surround your photo with graphics or other imported images that are important to you. These images may represent hobbies, goals, roles that you play–whatever you think will make up a complete picture of you.
4. When your design is completed to your satisfaction, print it on the sheet of transfer paper provided by your teacher. Don’t forget to reverse your image before printing.
5. Cut out your pillow using the pattern for the shape of your completed pillow.
6. Follow your teacher’s directions for transferring your image to the front of your pillow.
7. Place the front and back of your pillow right sides together.
8. Join the two sections of your pillow using a ½-inch seam allowance. Be sure to leave a six-inch section open for turning and stuffing.
9. Trim the corners close to stitching and turn the pillow right side out.
10. Press seams flat, being careful not to iron your transferred design.
11. Stuff pillow with polyester fiberfill. Hand stitch opening closed.
Congratulations! Your Ego Pillow is Completed!
