Planning A Bridal Shower

A bridal shower has traditionally been a time for female friends and family of the bride to gather to celebrate this momentous occasion in her life. However, it is becoming more common to make it a co-ed affair bringing together friends and family of the couple. For this activity, you may choose to plan an all female party or a "Jack and Jill" shower.

Objective: To plan all aspects of a party honoring the bride or bride and groom.

Project Directions:

  1. For this activity you will assume the role of the maid or honor in your sister’s wedding. A major responsibility that comes along with this role is to plan the bridal shower. Use the Guide to Bridal Showers reference sheet to assist you in your planning.

  2. Create the invitation for the bridal shower. The invitation must include:
The bride’s name as guest of honor.
    The location or the shower.
The day and time of the shower.
The name of the hostess (yourself).
The date and instructions on how to RSVP to the invitation.
An explanation of the shower’s theme.

  3. Select the theme for the bridal shower.

  4. Make a plan for the event’s activities. A general outline for the shower might be:
    Arrival of guests
    Introductions
An activity or game designed to entertain and allow guests to get to know one another.
Refreshments–Depending on the time of day, this might be a full meal or light snacks.
Gift time–Bride opens the gifts brought by guests.
Socializing–Guests visit with one another and the bride.
    Guests depart.

  5. Select at least one game to be played at the shower. Include all materials that would be needed to play the game. Games are available on the Internet at as well as other wedding related wedding web sites.

  6. Plan the menu for the refreshments or meal for the shower. Include recipes for the menu items.
