Put FACS on the Map!

One of the great things about FACS is the scope of the content that it includes!  Everything from food and nutrition, kitchen equipment and appliances, architecture and home furnishings, family dynamics, clothing, textiles and fashion and so much more!  The impact of FACS on the fabric of American life is everywhere and discovering evidence of it is so much fun!  How can you look at the crazy photo above and not think "Fun"?!!!  So what's my point?  Read on.

The photo above was taken when Dusty and I visited the Jell-O Museum in LeRoy, New York last fall.  Of course, we didn't drive hundreds of miles with the sole purpose of visiting the Jell-O Museum (http://www.jellogallery.org/).  This charming and fascinating spot was a happy discovery and turned out to be a real education in FACS history!  Many of the fun facts that I picked up during our visit became part of At Home With History, our resource for incorporating history into the FACS classroom.

As we travel, we're always on the lookout for the FACS connection in the sites we visit and we never have to look very hard for attractions that fit the bill.  Attractions that connect to FACS can be well known locations such as Sturbridge Village http://www.osv.org/ in Massachusetts or a relatively obscure spot like the Clabber Girl Museum in Terre Haute, IN http://www.clabbergirl.com.  Each of these locations provides information and experiences that you can take back and share in your FACS classroom.  You simply need to be open to the possibilities and you'll be amazed at what you'll discover!   For more examples of Putting FACS on the Map, check out the FACS on the Road category of our blog at http://freshfacs.com/wordpress/.

Old t-shirts became designer originals when these creative 4-H club members snipped, stitched and fringed the day away. We all had a great time at this sewing workshop!
